It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend. Gene passed away on Monday, December 2, 2025 with family at his bedside.
Gene will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years and their son Derek, daughter-in-law Kristine and grandson Joshua. He is survived by his two sisters Diane Beakley and Eleanor (Bernie) Halischuk along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Over the years as his health declined Gene loved watching TV, especially Columbo and Murder She Wrote, religious TV, and Elsie reading the Bible. He loved nature, out doors, and all its beauty. He truly enjoyed visits from his son Derek, daughter-in-law Kristine and grandson Joshua who he absolutely adored.
He enjoyed all sports but especially baseball and Hockey. He played baseball for Vita Cubs and ZVC Dodgers. Gene had the opportunity to play baseball with Derek and also summer hockey.
Gene was the ninth sibling in a family of 12. He was predecease by his parents Harry and Effie and siblings Bill, Pete, John, Nick, Mike, Maurice, Jarvis, Robert and Olga.
He attended Kupczanko West School.
Gene had a wonderful full life and will be sadly missed.
As for Genes wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his Life will take place at a later date.
We are relieved that you are pain free. Enjoy your time with family and friends and Jesus. Till we meet again my Love.
Rest in Peace.

I first met Eugene as a young vita cubs right fielder way back. I grew up in vita and knew the Picklyk family well. This family was talented on so many fronts. I was always getting pointers playing with big guys. The world has lost a good man and is poorer for it. vichnya panmyet. Until we meet at the ball field in the sky. - Posted by: ronnie bugera (former teammates vita cubs) on: Dec 07, 2025
